Founded by local educator Lindsey DiPietro in 2010, GetUp Stage Company is a Connecticut-based nonprofit organization that provides professional-quality theater education to young adults. The intensive summer program begins in June and ends with a fully staged musical in August. Students in the program benefit from a high-quality, rigorous production schedule while enjoying their summer with new friends from all over Connecticut. They learn the process of theatrical production as well as vocal instruction, acting, choreography and technical theater. Auditions are generally open to those 14-24, but this could change based on show content or licensing restrictions.
Along with performance opportunities for young adults, GUSCO seeks to provide college students and teachers/professors opportunities to teach classes in their area of interest and expertise. This partnership between high school and college also provides recruitment opportunities for the college/university theater programs and expert training for actors and technical theater students. Our more experienced actors also provide workshops and mentoring activities. This unique relationship between our college-aged theater majors and our younger actors allows both groups to have teaching and learning experiences that enhance not only resumes but also creative minds!
In 2023, GUSCO and the Bristol Public Schools created "Rockwell Summer Theater", a camp for Bristol students in grades 4-9. This camp is modeled after the long-running "Southington Youth Summer Theater". RST also offers a fun twist: GUSCO members are the staff for this camp, providing resume-building leadership positions for our high school and college-aged participants seeking such opportunities as directing, choreographing, education, theater education, youth programming, technical theater, casting, and other transferrable skills!
